The National Club Championship finals took place at Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham on the weekend of the 21st & 22nd April.
Having won their group, Grantham Men’s team made it through to the last eight clubs in the country with the ultimate goal of competing for the chance to represent England in the European Club Championships held in Eindhoven. Grantham’s team consisted of Adam Auckland, Owain Taylor, Martin Gibson and Paul Warner.
Having won the quarter final match against Wimbledon 4-0, it was onto the semi finals against defending champions Colets. With Daryl Selby playing for Colets, world top 20 player, this was going to be Grantham’s toughest opponents to date . Grantham did themselves proud but came out second best, losing 4-0. This meant that Grantham was now playing for third position against Roehampton.
Grantham were the underdogs for this match with Roehampton having some full time professional in their ranks. Playing some awesome squash, Grantham managed to win 4-0, finishing in third position overall. The mixed O35s also made it through to the finals weekend and finished 4th overall.
We would like to thank Jackson Buildbase for sponsoring the team and all the players for their continued support.
